Ever since the world discovered the tried and true talents
of Mahalia Jackson, New Orleans has long been known for
its great traditional gospel music.
The Heavenly Melodies have secured their own eternal place in the realm of
traditional black gospel.
They hail from one of New Orleans’ great
gospel families, one that has more than four decades
given us spirited gospel singers, the
Penns Sisters.
The Penns family has connections to groups like the Famous
Salem Travelers and The Friendly
Travelers.
The original Penns Sisters was reborn in the 1964 and
became the Heavenly Melodies.
The group has traveled
extensively throughout the state since that time.
They have chosen
the task of delivering the gospel to whoever will listen.
Their new album entitled “He’s
Workin’ It Out” certainly
qualifies them to minister the word in song. Their soul
stirring melodies garner plenty attention from church
parishioners as well as secular audiences. They
have been pleasing these audiences for more than 2 decades.
