Christal Brown-Gibson
The Lord's Psalmist

A noted songwriter, Psalmist and musician, Christal Brown-Gibson was born in Charleston, South Carolina in 1971.  Because of The Lord’s favor, Christal has walked through many doors of favor, to include being named “Female Gospel Vocalist of The Year” by Newsome Awards in Baltimore, MD (2006).

A Born-again Child of God, Christal grew up on Johns Island in Cedar Spring Baptist Church, where she was under the constant spiritual care of her mother, Ms. Helen G. Middleton, of Johns Island. Her music career began at age six when she sang her first solo in front of the congregation.

In 1998, Brown-Gibson founded an ecumenical community youth chorus known as The Christal Brown Youth Chorus. This 80-voice children’s chorus sang throughout the Charleston area and the East Coast. Under her 10-year tenure, The Youth Chorus toured The White House, won first place on Bobby Jones Gospel, recorded two CD’s, sang on the stage of Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida and sang at the 10,000-member Ebenezer AME Church in Fort Washington, Maryland. Presently, she serves as Choir Master at Saint Johns Episcopal Church on the Eastside of Charleston, South Carolina.

Always seeking for ways to perfect her gifts for The Kingdom, Christal has attended Berkelee College of Music Gospel Seminar in Boston, Massachusetts, The Gospel Heritage Praise and Worship Conference in D.C. and Atlanta and Bethel AME Church in Columbia, SC’s Music Conference. A recent Graduate of Southern Wesleyan University with a Bachelors Degree in Business Management,  Brown-Gibson is presently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Religious Studies in the area of Youth Ministry.

Through her career she received numerous awards: “Female Gospel Vocalist of The Year” to Newsome Awards di Baltimore, MD (2006), Winner of Amateur Night to The Apollo, Harlem, NY and Recipient for African American Achiever from Morris Brown AME Church to Charleston, S.C. (2010).

She also participated at numerous festivals and events: Spoleto Festival to Charleston (2003 – 2005), Traveling Psalmist for Evangelist Janice Bynum (2003-2004), Opening Psalmist for J. Moss Clark to North Charleston, SC (2004), Psalmist for NAACP events to Florida (2005) and Charleston (2008), Featured artist for MOJA Arts Festival to Charleston, SC (2005), Guest Psalmist per NAACP Religious Leaders Summit to Houston, Texas (2006), Revival Psalmist for Palma Ceia Baptist Church to California (2008), Guest Artist for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day to Biloxi, Mississippi (2009) and Guest Artist for NAACP National Convention to Kansas City, Missouri (2010).

Despite the Crystal's intense activity she have found time to release some projects: No Rocks Crying Out For Me (2000) her first CD after which she will release seven more albums, which clearly mark the evolution of her extraordinary career: For Your Glory (2002), Christmas Praise (2004), Beauty For Ashes (2005), Wake Up In Worship (2007), Songs Of My People (2007) and The Last Time (Firefighters’ Tribute) (2007).
