A noted songwriter, Psalmist and musician, Christal
Brown-Gibson was born in Charleston, South Carolina in 1971. Because
of The Lord’s favor, Christal has walked through
many doors of favor, to include being named “
Female
Gospel Vocalist of The Year” by Newsome Awards in
Baltimore, MD (2006).
A Born-again Child of God, Christal grew up on Johns
Island in Cedar Spring Baptist Church, where she was
under the constant spiritual care of her mother, Ms.
Helen G. Middleton, of Johns Island. Her music career
began at age six when she sang her first solo in front
of the congregation.
In 1998, Brown-Gibson founded
an ecumenical community youth chorus known as
The
Christal Brown Youth Chorus. This 80-voice children’s chorus
sang throughout the Charleston area and the East Coast.
Under her 10-year tenure, The Youth Chorus toured
The
White House, won first place on
Bobby
Jones Gospel, recorded
two CD’s, sang on the stage of
Walt
Disney World in Orlando, Florida and sang at the 10,000-member
Ebenezer
AME Church in Fort Washington, Maryland. Presently, she
serves as
Choir Master at Saint
Johns Episcopal Church on the Eastside of Charleston, South Carolina.
Always seeking for ways to perfect her gifts for The
Kingdom, Christal has attended Berkelee College of
Music
Gospel Seminar in Boston, Massachusetts,
The
Gospel Heritage Praise and Worship Conference in D.C. and Atlanta and
Bethel AME Church in Columbia,
SC’s
Music Conference. A recent Graduate of Southern Wesleyan University with
a Bachelors Degree in Business Management, Brown-Gibson
is presently pursuing a
Master’s Degree
in Religious Studies in the area of Youth Ministry.
