This is one of the most interesting emerging artists
out of the new Italian singer songwriters (cantatorato).
Balanced
between the roots of Rock and the poetry of the great singer
songwriters. Class of 1978, he started playing piano
and singing with a variety of bands in Ligura (Italy)
at a very young age. In 1998 he founded a band with the drummer
Andrea Balestrieri called “
Zibba
e Almalibre”.
The first formation of this band released the Cd
L’ultimo
giorno (The Last Day) in 2003. The group was embellished
by the violin of
Fabio Biale in 2006 when
it came out with the CD
Senza
smettere di far rumore. (Don’t
Stop Making Noise).
In the wake of the success of the latest album
Una
cura per il freddo (A Cure For Cold) which
was released on Volume/Universal/Cramps, they toured Italy
bringing their music straight to hearts of many, many people.
An important work of fifteen
songs, fifteen stories lived and told as only one who lives
the music can do. Enriched by the high caliber of the musicians
reaching new sounds and atmosphere able
to catapult our minds to where for the most part - only dreams
can take us.
Special guests on the cd include:
Rigo
Righetti (of Ligabue
fame) who toured with the band in 2009,
Francesco
Forni, Pippo Matino, Paolo Bonfanti, Bill Abel and
many more. It was mixed by
Sandro Franchin and
mastered at the
Nautilus Studio by
Antonio
Baglio.
Una cura
per il freddo is ready for a larger
audience - the satisfaction of the listeners won’t take
long.
The band has won the prestigious “
Premio
Tenco” (award)
in 2010 where they played three songs, sharing the stage with
a host of Italy’s biggest Stars. The same year of 2010
brought them the Award “
Leo
Chiosso” award in
the City of Chieri for the lyrics of “
Bon
Voyage”.
Zibba won two of the most important Singer Songwriter Awards
in the same month of 2011: “
Bindi” award
with the song “
Anche
il Lunedi” and
the “
L’artista che Non Cera" award.
Zibba and Almalibre have played
on many important stages. From “

Maggio di Roma” to opening slots for

Bregovic, Hot Tuna, Robben Ford, Vinicio Caposella, Jack Bruce,
Tonino Carotone, Africa, Unite, Bandabardo’, Modena City
Ramblers, and Davide Van De Sfroos.
Over
1000 live concerts in the last ten years. On the radio waves of the entire
Italian peninsula thanks to the singles like “
Margherita” (sung
in duet with
Tonino Carotone in 2009 which became the sound
track to a multitude of Italian lives.
The fact that this band is ready for a greater audience is
reinforced by the fact that cover bands perform their songs,
several fan clubs are coming out of the woodwork and they were
chosen as the best “
after festival
group” at
San
Remo festival 2010. Several of Zibba e Almalibre songs
are heard regularly on Television on the program “
Mi
Manda RAI 3 ”. They also participated the
Top

Talenti1”.
In November of 2010 a song written for the occasion was included
on the double CD of the project “
Club Tenco e
Mei”, a gathering of the
best Italian singer songwriters.
During Christmas of 2010 the band wrote a theme song which
aired nationally and was performed by
Maurizio
Lastrico a comedian
from the famous TV show “
Zelig”.
In February 2011 Zibba e Almalibre were the house band for
the TV show hosted by
Seren Dandini called “
Parla
con me sul RAI 3”.
That same month they recorded a new version of “
Una
Parola Illumina” with the participation of
Bunna (Africa Unite)
of which a video was made directed by
Stefano
Poletti. September
of 2011 brought the new single “
Una
Parte di Te” with
Federico Zampaglione (of Tiramacino). At the same time Zibba
collaborated on other projects like: “
Double
Trouble Featuring Bunna” a tribute to Bob Marley with
Rapael
and Bunna.
The theatrical debut of Zibba’s music saw light in 2011
with “
Comedian Blues” interpreted
by the comedy group “
Turbolenti” from
Colorado, written by
Lazzaro
Calcagno, and
Matteo Monforte - whom
also collaborated on a
following Theatrical show “
Camilla” which
had its debut in October of 2011. In the same year Zibba had
a role in the musical “
All’ombra dell‘ultimo
Sole” inspired
by the works of
Fabrizio D’Andrè and
written by
Massimo Cotto with a debut in July of 2011.
The true strength of this singer
song writer lies in his live performance. An intimate voyage
in a world of blistering
words. He speaks of everyday life, sex and friendship.
In the Bukowskian vein of “pulp” side
by side with messages to the gut straight from the soul. With
his infinite effrontery he opens a window on the soul of humanity.
Street rock. Barroom smells. A warm cover is pulled over the
listened. A romantic bastard and gentleman with an indelible
determination to get to the hearts of people.
